Abstract

The topic of this thesis is a proposal for improving inventory management in a specific company. The aim of the thesis is to identify the current inventory management in the company in question, to analyze the current inventory management system and demand forecast of selected products and then, according to the findings, to propose measures to improve inventory management. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, the theoretical knowledge on inventory management and demand forecast is described. Among other things, the methods and tools for inventory management used in the practical part are described. These include ordering systems, the ABC method, the XYZ method, safety stock, inventory velocity indicators, the demand forecast, and the demand forecast error. In the practical part of the thesis, first a description of the current inventory management in the case company is given and a differentiation of a selected group of finished goods inventory is made according to the criteria of share of sales and inventory turnover. Subsequently, demand forecast is applied to the most important products of the AA group and the demand forecast error is evaluated. In addition, safety stock sizes and ordering levels are determined for group AA. Based on the findings and calculations, measures are proposed that could help to improve inventory management in the case company.
