Abstract

Dissertation thesis is „The ways“ deals with the problem of designing urban line network using mathematical programming methods. The introductory chapters of the dissertation thesis are devoted to the main analysis of the quality criteria in urban mass transport – time and speed of transportation, transportation safety, opportunity, reliability and accuracy, comfort, informedness, environmental impact, economic cost. Consequently, the criteria are divided into two basic groups – in relation to transport line network and the others. Each criterion is described in detail. Furthermore, the survey of the approaches to the urban line network design is presented. There are defined the aims of the dissertation thesis at the close of the analysis part. The design part is summarized into two chapters. The first chapter describes theoretical background. The second chapter describes, the problem formulation, the mathematical models proposal, and the proposal of a new solution methodology. The part of these chapters is the description of modelling passengers’ behaviour. The passengers’ behaviour is estimated according to the proposed transport line network. The next part is devoted to experiments with the proposed models and algorithms. The experiments are performed at the urban line network in Žilina. In concluding chapters there are summarized scientific benefits of the thesis and possibilities of further research in a given problem. The thesis result is a new multiphase method of designing the urban public transport line network. The proposed method is based on the exact models. They are designed as linear and multi-criteria models. The designed models were solved using optimisation software Xpress-IVE. The proposed models are combined with a heuristic algorithm and were published at native and international conferences.
