Abstract

The master thesis deals with the design of a cooled screw conveyor for the transport and indirect cooling of magnesium oxide, which is used as an insulating material in the production of ferrovanadium. The objective was to design a structurally efficient cooling and operationally reliable device that will enable the production cycle time of a ferrovanadium production cycle to be reduced from 60 to 30 minutes. Within the scope of the work, four design options were developed, one of which was selected based on a techno-economic assessment. The design included a detailed 3D model of the plant, design of the cooling circuits and assessment of the individual structural units. Thermal calculations, analytical control calculations and finite element method (FEM) strength analyses were performed on key components. The result is a comprehensive plant design ready for inclusion in real operation within the magnesite economy.
