Abstract
This diploma thesis focuses on the evaluation of wear in solid carbide milling cutters supplied by the main vendors of the company for which the thesis was prepared. The maximum wear limit of the original milling cutter was experimentally determined based on the experience of the most skilled operator specializing in the group of components for which the experiment was designed. The experiment was conducted under cutting conditions used and required by the company, as well as under conditions recommended by the suppliers.
Based on the defined maximum allowable wear on the tool edges, time intervals for experimental measurements and the maximum tool life in active cutting were established. The measurements were carried out using a microscopic method on all four cutting edges, from which an average value was calculated. Each tool was measured ten times. All photographic documentation is included in the appendices of this thesis, and the measured values are further elaborated in the following chapters. Based on the results, an evaluation and proposal of optimal conditions were made according to theoretical procedures, which may serve as the basis for future experiments.In the final part of the thesis, a technical-economic assessment was conducted, indicating the potential annual savings in the event of implementing alternative tools in place of the original milling cutter.
