Abstract

The bachelor thesis is dealing with the stability of belt conveyors used to transport excavated material through the surface of the water in the mines. The introduction explains important terms such as buoyancy force or centre of gravity. The calculation of static stability itself is first performed analytically for relatively simple shape of floats of floating pivots, in the transverse and longitudinal directions. Due to the complexity of the analytical calculation for the complicated shape of the float, a solution using 2D and 3D modeling is also included. Modeling is done in a computer program Ansys, macros used to simplify the calculation are stated in the attachment. The output of the calculation of the static stability is the angle at which the vessel will capsize. There is also included a procedure to calculate the dynamic stability and maximum actuating force to ensure the vessel will not capsize.
