Abstract

This master thesis focuses on analyzing the process of shot peening the stabilizer bars used in automobiles. The introductory part of the work explains the purpose of the stabilizer bars. It also examines the materials and the production processes used in manufacturing the component while putting emphasis on the problematics of shot peening. Furthermore, the first part of the work includes the theory of residual stress, the methodology used for measuring residual stress as well as the description of the devices used for measuring it. The experimental section of the work is divided into two parts. The first part describes the measurement of the intensity of shot peening using Almen strips. The goal of this part is to examine the intensity in various places and various settings. The second part focuses on the metholodogy used for measuring Barkhausen noise on a component and the subsequent possibility to evaluate the integrity of the component’s surface. This is carried out in order to suggest possible ways of utilization of this measuring method in the production process. All of the measured values included in the experimental part of the work are compiled graphically and evaluated.
