Abstract

This master thesis falls into the field of unconventional machining methods, specifically focusing on the machining of titanium and its alloys with a laser beam. In the theoretical part, extensive research of already performed experiments in the field of evaluation of selected surface integrity parameters after laser beam machining is prepared. Furthermore, the possibilities of evaluating the cut quality and typical defects of the cutting joint after laser beam machining are presented in this part of the thesis. The principle of additive technology is also described. In the experimental part, the procedure of cutting titanium samples by fiber laser in pulsed mode and preparation of samples for metallographic analysis is described. The samples are made from Ti6Al4V titanium alloy by two different fabrication technologies (SLM and rolled sheet method). The output of the experimental part is the comparison of the measured values of selected surface integrity parameters (namely the thickness of the recast layer, the width of the cutting joint, the size and number of cracks and the height of burrs).
