Creating a Complex Technical, Energetic and Economy Design of System for Storage of Electrical Energy Using LAES/CAES Methods

Abstract

Fatih Akyüz. Creating a Complex Technical, Energetic and Economy Design of System for Storage of Electrical Energy Using LAES/CAES Methods. Ostrava: VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Energy Engineering, 2024, 65 p. Thesis head: Ing. Ondřej Němček, Ph.D. The master's thesis focuses on energy storage systems, specifically Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) and Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES). The introduction section discusses existing energy storage systems. Designs were developed separately for the equipment used in LAES and CAES systems, and their thermodynamic efficiencies were calculated. Additionally, the thesis examines the potential losses and gains that may arise from storing surplus electricity and supplying it to the grid during periods of high demand. Reducing emissions is also considered an important goal with the use of storage systems. The thesis further explores studies on the environmental impacts of storage systems and their potential for reducing emissions.
