Abstract
Master’s thesis entitled “AFO orthosis with PDE splint” focuses on the complex design of an ankle-foot orthosis with a posterior dynamic element – a reactive splint (so-called spring). Ankle-foot orthosis is used in healthcare in case of disfunction of the lower limb (damaged or loss of nerves, muscles, etc.). Designed orthosis is custom-made by the user, the entire design is based on a 3D scan of a specific patient’s lower limb. In this master’s thesis, the primary problem to be solved is the overall design of the reactive PDE splint considering its production by additive technology – 3D printing. More specifically, it is dealt with optimal geometry design of the PDE splint using FEA analysis, the appropriate material to use and the subtle way of connecting the PDE splint with the other parts of the orthosis allowing the angle between the shank and the foot to be adjusted. The optimal design of the PDE splint was subjected to a real test of printed samples on the testing machine. Furthermore, the master’s thesis deals with the design of the other parts of the orthosis, also considering their production by additive technology, and the method of fixing the orthosis to the lower limb. Simultaneously, the design of the orthosis considers requirements for low price, high load capacity, user-friendliness, simplicity of construction and subtlety.
