Abstract
This diploma thesis involves designing, simulating, and implementing a supervisory control system for industrial and environmental process automation. Developing the system within a virtual environment using a virtual PLC and SCADA platform, enables cost-effective and flexible emulation of real-world scenarios. Core functions include real-time monitoring, process visualization, and alarm handling. A major focus is the automation of an Odour Control Unit (OCU), which involves signal specification, data type configuration, and SoftPLC programming to control pumps, valves, and fans while tracking H₂S levels and wastewater conditions. OPC UA ensures secure and standardized communication between the PLC and SCADA components, supporting reliable data exchange. The HMI is deployed using both Siemens WinCC and AVEVA platforms, allowing intuitive user interaction. The project demonstrates the importance of supervisory control in enhancing operational efficiency and promoting environmental sustainability.
