Abstract
Situation in many purchasing departments has dramatically changed in the last few decades, especially because of changes of the whole procurement. Purchasing used to be mostly perceived as operative, however, in the last few years it has been gaining a significant strategic importance and is now a key factor for long-time prosperity of some companies. With changes of procurement itself, requirements needed for a job of procurement professional have been rising too. It is no longer enough to have knowledge of some basic purchasing methods, but there are many other skills and abilities that are needed to fulfill these rising requirements. Aim of this thesis is to analyze these skills and abilities of procurements specialists and divide respondents into groups according to percieved importance of already mentioned skills and abilities. This thesis tries to demonstrate changes in procurement profession and show some possible types of procurement specialists. Respondents had the opportunity to evaluate skill groups in pairwise comparions. These evaluations were analyzed with AHP method to determine which skill group is the most dominant. After that, cluster analysis was performed to classify the data and divide respondents into groups. Two possible results of cluster analysis are presented in this thesis, while the second version (with six clusters) is presented as the final result.
