Abstract

This bachelor thesis named The Possibility of Expanding the Metropolitan Network is aimed on exploring the possibility of expanding the metropolitan area network into a new area and investigating the demand for internet and other services. The first part is theoretical. It describes the metropolitan area network as such – its functioning, topology, transfer technologies, and hardware components of the network. The next part deals with the analysis of current state of the firm. It discusses its aims, objectives, services offered, and coverage with services. The last part of this thesis is practical and projects the geographical expansion of the metropolitan area network into a new area of the town. An investigation into the interest in data services of a metropolitan area network was carried out in the new area of the town. By the term data services the internet, television and telephone services are meant. The investigation was carried out by means of personal inquiry in eight houses of flats which host 216 households.
