Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the problem of rail welding. Welds are made by Railtech's aluminothermal method.
First part of this thesis describes the current state of rail welding in railway network and also the aluminothermic method in more detail, which is crucial for this thesis. Later, technological conditions during welding by Railtech method, defects in welds and also methods of testing welded joints are described.
In the experimental part, cut-out cracked samples welded by the PLA 25 method and the properties of the weld joint, possible causes and circumstances under which the weld fracture could occur were investigated. Furthermore, these properties were compared with the properties of the weld joint made by the Innershield method, which is also used as one of the methods of rail welding.
