Abstract

BRYCHTA, Jan. Conceptual design of a belt feed for a machine gun. Ostrava. 2026, Bachelor’s Thesis. Ostrava: VSB – Technical University od Ostrava, Faculty of mechanical Engineering, Department of Design. 51 pages, Thesis supervisor: Ing. Martin Červenka, Ph.D. The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of belt feeding of machine guns and with possibilities of its design solutions. The introductory part summarizes basic information about machine guns, methods of ammunition supply, types of cartridge belts and the main principles of belt-feeding mechanism. Subsequently, selected belt-fed machne guns, namely PK, FN MAG and UK vz. 59, are analysed and their design, functional and operational characteristics are compared. Based on the acquired knowledge, requirements for the madification of the UK vz. 59 machine gun ti the 7,62x51 mm NATO cartridge are formulated and a conceptual design of a belt-feeding mechanism fir this weapon is proposed. The design is based on a comparison of the original and the consired cartridge, on an analysis of the feeding mechanism function and on a basic technical assessment of the proposed solution. The thesis alsodefines a follow-up procedur efor verifying the function of the design by manual tests on a model and subsequent experimental test on a prototype.
