Abstract

This master’s thesis focuses on the transformation of the packaging section in a food processing facility. The thesis describes the individual steps involved in the chicken meat processing procedure. It then focuses specifically on the packaging section of a particular facility, providing a detailed description of the layout of packaging machines and their auxiliary components. Based on time-stamped observations at one of the workstations, the study identifies the reasons for material flow slowdowns and inefficient activities and processes occurring during the packaging operation. The proposed solution aims to eliminate these inefficiencies. Furthermore, a new layout for the packaging section is proposed to ensure a faster material flow through the packaging area. Finally, the benefits of the proposed changes for the company are evaluated.
