Abstract
This bachelor's thesis deals with the fatigue life prediction of welded joints using the International Institute of Welding (IIW) methodology. The aim of the thesis is to assess the fatigue life of selected welded joints and to compare different computational approaches in terms of their accuracy and computational difficulty. The investigated object is a welded bracket structure made of AISI 304L stainless steel.
The theoretical part describes material fatigue and the principles of weld assessment according to IIW recommendations, including individual procedures for stress determination. The practical part is focused on creating a model of the assembly and finding critical locations using the nominal stress method. A detailed stress analysis is subsequently performed using the hot-spot method and the effective notch stress method. The obtained results are compared with each other and show that the fillet weld S3 is the most critical in terms of overall life.
