Abstract
This master’s thesis deals with the design and manufacturing of a closed impeller using SLM/LPBF technology without the use of support structures in the internal flow channels. The theoretical part presents the current state of knowledge in the field of closed impeller manufacturing, covering both conventional manufacturing technologies and metal additive manufacturing methods. The practical part focuses on the creation of an original 3D model of the impeller, its design adaptation to the requirements of support-free printing, and its preparation for manufacturing from 316L stainless steel on a Renishaw AM400 system. The thesis also includes the design of a suitable post-processing procedure, including heat treatment, HIP, removal of support structures, finishing machining, and the treatment of internal channels using AFM technology. The final part presents a techno-economic analysis of the manufacturing process, including an estimation of the costs for small-batch production. The outcome of the thesis is a proposed technological procedure for manufacturing a closed impeller, combining the advantages of additive manufacturing with subsequent finishing operations in order to achieve the required quality.
