Analýza přínosů a rizik zřízení a provozování nezpevněné vzletové a přistávací dráhy na letišti Ostrava

Abstract

This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the benefits and risks associated with the establishment and operation of an unpaved runway at Ostrava/Mošnov Airport (LKMT). With the increasing share of general aviation flights, which use the public international airport LKMT for their operations, the utilization of the existing and only runway is, on some operational days, approaching its maximum capacity limits. Unpaved runways represent an alternative solution to paved runways and can offer advantages such as lower construction, operation, and maintenance costs, greater flexibility in airport operations, a smaller environmental footprint, and the possibility of diversifying traffic. However, they also bring specific risks and challenges that must be carefully considered. The aim of this thesis is to conduct a comprehensive analysis that takes into account both the positive and negative aspects of this solution. First, the theoretical framework is presented, focusing on the characteristics and types of runways. Subsequently, the current state of the airport, its infrastructure, and layout are analyzed. The thesis includes a comparison with selected airports, supplemented by a case study of the chosen solution. In the practical part, location variants for the runway are proposed, which are analyzed in terms of their advantages and disadvantages, including an assessment of the benefits and risks of each option. The output of the thesis is a set of final recommendations that can be used in the decision-making process before the potential implementation of an unpaved runway at LKMT Airport.
