Abstract
The master's thesis deals with numerical modeling of flow in a U-type radiator followed by
evaluation of pressure loss in the return tank for various geometries. The computational grid is
generated using the ANSA program, and numerical calculations are performed using the ANSYS
Fluent software. The introductory section describes heat exchangers (their basic characteristics,
classification, and fundamental calculations) and their significance in the automotive industry.
The theoretical part elaborates on numerical modeling. In the practical section, 3D models are
created along with the generation of computational grids for individual design variants of the
heat exchanger. Subsequently, the defined mathematical model is applied to each design
variant, including numerical solutions in the ANSYS Fluent program. Pressure loss in the return
tank for each variant is meticulously evaluated, followed by an assessment of the influence of
individual parameters on pressure loss. Finally, a suitable correlation for a 1D tool is compiled,
which best describes pressure losses in the return tank depending on various parameters.
