Abstract
This bachelor's degree thesis discusses the finishing operations and evaluates the surface changes that occur during the processes of removing material chips. During conventional methods such as milling, material deformations emerge and hence the material quality is influenced. Yet nowadays, the outcome quality is becoming more and more crucial. As opposed to these conventional methods, there is also the possibility of leveraging methods which do not result in the material chip removal. This method causes material deformations within the range of tenths of millimetres. However, this in fact improves the material's quality not only due to smoothening the surface and hence improving its evenness but also due to strengthening the surface and hence improving its hardness. In this thesis, I have designed the construction of an ideal milling tool using diamond for material smoothing. Furthermore, having had researched various scientific journal articles that discuss this topic, I selected suitable materials for this method and identified the optimal cut characteristics. Lastly, this thesis provides the rationale for the selection of the specific materials and presents their characteristics as well as their practical advantages and disadvantages.
