Abstract
This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the cutting edge microgeometry of indexable cutting inserts on the cutting process during turning of austenitic stainless steel AISI 316L. The theoretical part summarizes the basic parameters of cutting edge microgeometry, methods of its measurement, and technologies used for cutting edge preparation. The experimental part focuses on the evaluation of cutting edge characteristics of inserts prepared by brushing, wet abrasive blasting, and polishing. Cutting forces and the quality of the machined surface are also evaluated. The results show that the functional behaviour of the tool cannot be assessed only by the cutting edge radius, but it is also necessary to consider the profile orientation, the cutting edge preparation technology, and the specific cutting conditions.
