Estimace Lafferovy křivky pro daň z příjmů právnických osob v zemích OECD

Abstract

This diploma thesis aims to determine the relationship between corporate tax revenues and corporate tax rates in OECD countries and to verify the relationship proposed by economic concept of Laffer curve. Furthermore, partial aims are to closer analyze the relationship and to find if there are any other aspects influencing the tax revenues apart from tax rate. The dataset includes 38 OECD member countries. Among used methods were description analysis in the beginning to better understand the data and the development of the time-series. Afterwards, linear regression using OLS was used for each individual country. Due to limited number of observations given the use of annual data, panel data regression was used to estimate the impact of various macroeconomic variables. The results indicate that corporate tax rates have positive effect on corporate tax revenues together with increasing GDP per capita. On the other hand, growth in R&D spending was proven to have negative impact on the tax collection, indicating possible tax optimalization. Finally, the threshold of the prohibitive tax rate, or the Laffer point, was estimated using the results of the regression equation to be approximately 36 %.
