Abstract
ŽÁČEK, D. Forge Welding when Producing Damascus Steel. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava, 2009, 52 p.
Thesis, head: doc. Ing. Ivo Hlavatý Ph.D.
Thesis present results of analysis microstructure and mechanical properties of composite material, produced by forge welding technology – The Damascus steel, which combinate high karbon Cr steel CSN 41 9418 and Cr-Ni-W-Mo steel CSN 41 9655. Final material include properties of the used steels and increases his application.
Study microstructure was performed by optical matallography and electron microscopy related to energy - dispersive spectral microanalysis (EDS). Scan electron microscope effected study of samples by secondary electrons (SEI) and back scattered electrons – material’s contrast (BEC).
Technology of forge welding was extended ability to make consistent forge joint. The structure of normalize damascus steel is ferritic with secondary cementite grains and pearlite. Hardened and tempering samples has function to strenghtening martensitic transformation, where was founded fine martensite phase in the composite. Technique EDS detect oxid segregation between welded lamells. This oxid segregation could be efect to mechanical properties like strength and notch toughness.
