Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the design and assessment of a transfer chute
of a conveyor belt for diverting the flow of bulk material at the coal preparation plant in Ledvice. The thesis describes the basic principles of belt conveying, the issues related to transfer points and chutes, and the possibilities of using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) in the design of conveying equipment.
The work also includes laboratory determination of the properties of the transported material – lignite of the Ořech 2 fraction, especially particle size distribution, angle of repose, bulk density, and the angles of internal and external friction. Based on this data, a material model for DEM simulation was created.
DEM simulations were used to evaluate different variants of chute geometry and contact surface materials. Based on the simulation results, the optimal variant of the transfer chute design ensuring stable material flow and reduced structural loading was proposed.
