Design of a New Layout at the 700 Department

Abstract

The design of a new layout for the fabric division (700 Department) at ISOTRA a.s. in Opava is the theme of this thesis. The thesis major goal is to prepare a new arrangement that will make the material flow in the appropriate department shorter and easier. First, the layout was designed for the current state of the department, and the process flow was mapped in the layout. In addition, the length of the process flow for all products manufactured in the layout area is measured, from raw materials to expedition lift. The material flow analysis method was then used to examine the process flow for all products. Longer and backflow processes are identified as a result. On the other hand, the last five years production rate of the product was collected and analysed. From that priority of the products was found out. Depending upon the results the layout was optimized, and new layout was designed. From the new layout, process flow was mapped, new material flow analysis was prepared, waste and unnecessary materials are removed, and process length of all products are identified. From the new results, three products material flow length was drastically reduced, and process flow became easier in department.
