Master thesis is dealing with the quality assessment of the welded joints of rails. The rails weld is made by resistance butt fusion with melting. Quality requirements of the weld joints were checked according to the requirements of the relevant standards.
The theoretical part describes the current state of rails welding and used welding methods. The resistance method of rails welding together with the created structure and the butt fusion device are explained in detail there. Inspection methods of welded joints are presented there too.
In the experimental part the test specimens of two different rail materials were welded via stainless piece. The after-cooling equipment was designed to avoid unwanted drop in hardness of the heat-affected zone (HAZ). In the end qualitative checks were conducted to verify the weld joints according to the standard ČSN EN 14587-3.
