Abstract

This thesis describes the optimisation design of rear underrun protection using Final Element Method (FEM) modelling. The work compares actual design of the rear underrun protection with the Regulation no. 58, Attachment 57, Agreements on the adoption of uniform technical rules for wheeled vehicles. One of the thesis’ goals is to perform the FEM simulation of loading of the rear underrun protection in order to compare the results with deformation data obtained from an experiment conducted by TATRA TRUCKS Company. Stress-strain tests were performed to account for the influence of materials plasticity. Finally, the thesis suggests construction adjustments to lower the weight of the rear underrun protection.
